Anti Static Bags – Protecting sensitive device

Anti static bags are topically treated plastic bags that are used for storing electronic components while reducing the static electricity. The bags are coated with an anti static agent that minimizes the charge imbalance.

Some bags have anti-static films inside the bag for further protection. A good anti static bag is one that has anti static properties on both inside and outside of the bag.

These bags have high resistance to electricity and let the current pass through slowly, thus protecting sensitive devices. Anti static bags or electrically conductive bags are designed to protect sensitive equipment. Static can not only damage the electronic components of device where static is built up, but can also injure human beings dealing with such devices.

Anti static bags are usually plastic and have a distinctive color, silvery for metalized PET film and other similar plastics, pink or black for polyethylene. The polyethylene variant may also take the form of foam or Bubble Wrap, either as sheets or bags.

Anti static bags can be purchased for just pennies through online suppliers while the highest grade antistatic mats may cost a few hundred dollars depending on the size of your work station.

Static Eliminators

Summary about Static Eliminator By Ken Marlborough

Static electricity develops when the balance between Protons, which have positive (+) charges, and Electrons, which have negative (-) charges (normally they are equal in numbers) in atoms, is disturbed. While static electricity does have certain benefits, it also carries a high risk factor.

Static electricity attracts dust. Static charge can be neutralized through different methods. Leaking out static electricity by using charged particles called ‘ions’ is also an effective technique. A specialist would measure and analyze the static electricity and suggest the appropriate counter measures, which are generally known as static eliminators.

Static bars are also used. Other static eliminators include antistatic spray for optics, disk drives, metal rolls, and photographic materials. Anti static brushes using resistance flow remove dust and static charge.

In labs where static electricity control is required, solid vinyl tablemats are effective. Strap-on heel grounders earth the dangerous charge. There are even adjustable wristbands that give protection from static electricity.
