Bulk Bags Guide

Bulk bags also known as jumbo bags, shipping sacks, big bag and FIBCs are extremely versatile and can hold a variety of wet and dry materials.

Bulk bags may also be used to divert mudslides, small streams, and to hold waste on oil rigs. In addition, some styles of bulk bags may be filled with sand and used for flood control.

Bulk bags standard features:

  • Bag designs including U panel, circular, baffle
  • Available with liners. Regular tube style liners or form fitted to bag size and sewn -tabbed- to remain secure in the bag

Optional bulk bags features:

  • Remote discharge capability (allows the ability to release the product from the bottom of the bag without having to reach underneath the bag)
  • Full bottom discharge. Allows the bag to empty products that cake or bridge
  • Offset discharge. Allows emptying the bag without elevating it

Returnable Packaging Alert — Top 10 Ways To Save Money On Bulk Bags

Summary On Bulk Bags by David Marinac

For manufacturers of bulk items like animal feed or chemicals, bulk bags are often the cheapest way to package a product. In recent years, technology has advanced so that bulk bags are no longer simple paper or cloth sacks.

  • Compare the prices of bulk bags made domestically versus overseas.
  • If your bulk bag order is less than 250 pieces, have your bags made domestically.
  • Ask your supplier for samples of bulk bags before ordering.
  • Consider a test run before a large order.
  • Instead of ordering custom-made bulk bags, use bags your supplier has in stock. Chances are stock bulk bags will work just as well, and you will not have to pay additional fees for a custom order.
  • Learn the different types and styles of bags that are available. Bulk bags are made using a variety of fabrics. For example, coated fabric prevents material from breathing and is best for products that are fine, like powders. Uncoated fabric is breathable and is used when the product needs to aerate.
  • After use, have your bulk bags cleaned or laundered. There are companies that can clean your bulk bags with mild soap and water.
  • When you are done with your bulk bags, consider selling them to other companies who will clean them and use them for their products, or to companies that will recycle them.
  • Evaluate different fabric thicknesses.
  • Forecast your needs. If you order an extra month’s supply of bulk bags, not only will they be there for you when you need them, but you may also save money by placing a larger order and getting a bulk discount.

In closing, bulk bags are an extremely efficient way to move materials in 1000 to 4000 pound units at a time.

Bulk Bag Parts Systems

The present invention relates to bag discharge systems and, more particularly, to a bulk bag discharge system and method that minimizes contamination transferred to the bag contents.

Bulk bags are used in many industries to transport large quantities of products, such as pharmaceuticals, bulk chemicals, and food products. The bag is generally filled through a fill spout located in the top of the bag.

Discharge requires lifting the bag, pulling a bottom spout down and away from the bag, and untying or cutting a tie that secures the bottom spout. Known bulk bag discharge systems have a lack of sanitation when the contents of the bag are discharged, because contaminants on the outside and the bottom of the bag fall into the discharge system and become entrained in the clean product exiting the bag spout.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a bulk bag discharge system and method of discharging that minimizes contamination of the contents of the bag during discharge from the bag.

In order to provide these objects and advantages, the bulk bag discharge system and method of the present invention has a bag lifting frame from which the bulk bag is suspended by four loops attached thereto.

An outer chamber attached to the support frame is positioned below the bulk bag and has a bag support dish having a center opening disposed to support the bag, with the bag spout positioned through the center opening. The inner chamber is provided with an inner product tube and a spout adapter attachable to the inner product tube to accommodate a spout from the bag and a liner from the bag. Also, a bag massage device may be provided to stimulate the bulk bag to enable discharge of clumped or compressed material from within the bag.

The access hatch is opened and the bag spout is grasped and pulled downward. Then the operator reaches up into the bag spout and pulls a bag liner down from inside the bag spout. The pinch bars, if used, are utilized to pinch the bag spout shut. The bulk bag may now be removed from the bag support dish.

The inner product tube retaining clamp and the inner product tube are removed from the outer chamber.

Summary

Bulk bag discharge system and method

A bulk bag discharger is disclosed having an inner product tube for receiving the discharge spout on the bottom of the bulk bag, the tube being housed within an outer chamber that traps and retains foreign material and contaminants that could otherwise fall into the clean product zone. The result is discharge of product from within the bulk bag with minimal contamination from the outer bag.

Bulk bag discharge apparatus

This invention relates to an apparatus for discharging particulate solids, especially hazardous or toxic materials and contaminants of the atmosphere, from bulk shipping containers, such as bulk-bags, at controlled discharge rates, in an environmentally acceptable manner which eliminates exposure of the environment and personnel to contamination by the material and which allows for an essentially clinically clean environment due to emptying and transfer of the contents to process equipment.

Bulk bag emptying apparatus and method

Apparatus and method of emptying a material-filled bulk bag of the type having a bottom discharge spout which is releasable closed above a bottom end of the spout being released and opened after the bottom end of the spout is releasable and sealable attached to a material receiving conduit so as to provide a substantially dustless emptying procedure.
