Burlap bags are bags that made from burlap, also called as gunny sacks. In the southern US similar bags are called crocus sack, croker sack, towsack, and grass sack. Burlap bags are known for their strength and durability.

Burlap bag is often used to make sacks and bags to ship goods like coffee beans, grains, potatoes, sugar and other agricultural products. It is also durable enough to withstand rough handling in transit; these properties have also led to its use for temporary protection of setting cement and concrete by the construction industry.

Another burlap kind is burlap cloth. Common uses for burlap cloth include tree wrapping and frost protection, agricultural packaging, sculpting, scenery and decoration, upholstery and carpet backing, restoration, seeding, and ground erosion protection.

Some of burlap bags having a polyethylene plastic liner which is secured only at the mouth of the bag by a single line of thermoplastic adhesive which may be reactivated positioned about the interior edge of the mouth, with the seams of the bag on the inside.

Now, burlap bags are also sometimes used as sandbags. They are usually made from jute or other natural fibers, although modern sacks are often made from polypropylene.

Burlap bags are also popular in the traditional children’s game of sack races.
